Game Night kicks off Thursday
SUNBURY — Are you ready for some football?
If you are you won’t have to wait much longer, and the opening weekend of the scholastic and collegiate seasons will certainly dish up some football feasts right away.
With the season kicking off Friday night, Valley football fans can get a jump on the 2010 season Thursday with the publication of The Daily Item’s first Game Night of the season. Game Night will feature previews, predictions and features on every team in the area. This week’s Game Night will highlight three players who are stepping into roles left vacated after big-name stars from last season graduated.
Shikellamy Community Night coming
SUNBURY — Fans will get to meet the Shikellamy High School fall sports teams, coaches and cheerleaders when the school holds its third annual Community Night at 6 p.m. Thursday at the football stadium.
Admission to the event is free.
The program will begin with the unfurling of the U.S. flag by the school’s ROTC, after which master of ceremonies Kevin Herr, WKOK radio play-by-play announcer for the Shikellamy football games, will introduce new district superintendent Robin Musto and then the athletes.
The program will include members of the golf, boys and girls soccer, field hockey, cross country, girls tennis and football teams.
The football team will be introduced last and their new posters will be unveiled.
SU QB Club luncheon is Friday
SELINSGROVE — The first Susquehanna University Quarterback Club luncheon of the 2010 season is scheduled for Friday, the day before the Crusaders’ season opener at Moravian.
The luncheons will be held every Friday at noon throughout the football season. The only exception will be the week prior to SU’s Nov. 6 game at WPI. That week, the luncheon will be held on Thursday, Nov. 4 at noon.
As in years past, the event will take place in the Apple Community Room of the James W. Garrett Sports Complex on the Susquehanna campus. A yearly membership to the QB Club is $40. That amount does not include the weekly fee for lunch.
