Valley stars earn more grid honors

Valley football players representing five different schools combined for 17 all-state berths, according to a release from the Pennsylvania Football News over the weekend.

District 4-A champion Southern Columbia put five players on the Class A team, while AAA champ Selinsgrove and AA titleist Mount Carmel each had four.

Leading the way for the Seals is junior Ryan Keiser. Keiser, a first-team AP all-state selection, earned another first-team spot again as a defensive back. Keiser, The Daily Item's Offensive Player of the Year, broke every single-season receiving mark for Selinsgrove this year and also intercepted a team-high nine passes. Spencer Myers and Teighler Doak were named to the PFN's second-team defense, Spencer as a lineman and Doak as a linebacker.

Jon Trego also earned second-team honors for the Seals. The junior center was named to the second-team offensive line.

In AA, Danville's record-setting tight end Michael Smith repeated as a first-team selection and joining him on the AA team are four players from Mount Carmel.

The Red Tornadoes, who won the inaugural HAC-II title on their way to their first district title since 2002, were led by first-team offensive line pick Chris Steck, who along with Smith was also a first-team AP selection.

Daily Item Defensive Player of the Year Trevor Demko was a second-team honoree as a defensive lineman while record-setting quarterback Marcus Wasilewski was a third-team pick. Justin Pellowski also earned all-state honors in a new category: Special teams.

Southern Columbia put five players on the Class A all-state team while the team the Tigers knocked off to win the title -- Line Mountain -- had three players pick up awards.

The only Valley first-team selection was senior Jon Fausey of Line Mountain. A second-team PFN pick last year, Fausey earned first-team status this season despite missing several games with an injury.

Teammates joining Fausey on the PFN team were Aaron Inch and Aaron Welker. Inch was named to the second-team defense as a lineman while Welker was a second-team offensive specialist.

Inch was a first-team AP pick while Fausey was a second-team selection.

Southern had three second-team selections and two more third-team picks. On the second team was lineman Chase Fraley, running back Steve Roth and linebacker Aaron Yoder. Third-team honorees were tight end Ken Schetroma and placekicker Bryan Snyder.
