Danville, Sunbury/Norry lead all-star selections

The Susquehanna Valley American Legion all-star teams were selected recently, with Danville and Sunbury/Northumberland dominating the Susquehanna Valley League team, while Milton dominated the West Branch League team.

Named to the SVL first team for Danville were pitcher Andrew Shoop, second baseman Brett Reichard and third baseman Dan Winnie. Sunbury/Norry had pitcher Chuck Schlegel, catcher Derek Alex and outfielder Scott Deibler named to the first team.

Rounding out the SVL’s first team are Selinsgrove outfielder Paul Eyster, Shamokin/Mount Carmel first baseman Matt Moroz, Bloomsburg pitcher Tyler Coombe and outfielder Devin McLaughlin, and Berwick shortstop Jon Wilson.

Named to the West Branch first team for Milton were pitcher Robert Kerstetter, first baseman Tony Fannick, second baseman Brad Balliet, third baseman Trevor Danowsky, and outfielder Gerry Runyan.

Of the remaining members of the WBL first team, four came from West Snyder and four from Watsontown.

West Snyder players named to the team were pitchers Tim Brubaker and Kyle Heane, first baseman Steve Brouse, and second baseman James Krouse. Watsontown players selected were catcher Brian Stopper, third baseman Jason Hall, and outfielders Bobby Ulrich and Cory Martin.

Rounding out the West Branch first team are Lewisburg catcher Nate Wagner and Hughesville shortstop Skyler Reese.

Pratt, who signed a national letter of intent this week to accept a scholarship offer to play for the Golden Bears, will be under the tutelage of his father's high school football coach.

    If two heads are better than one, does that mean six eyes are better than four? Not necessarily, according to some Heartland Athletic Conference officials. There is a move afoot in the HAC to cut the number of basketball referees from three to two for part of the season beginning next year.

    It's difficult to recall exactly how the sequence unfolded because it happened so darn fast. Shikellamy made a couple baskets, and the crowd began to stir. It was still anybody's game, and the Braves had some momentum late in the third quarter of a recent run with Danville.
