With the Adam T. Bower Dam bags being inflated and deflated this past week, it makes fishing below the dam a little tricky. The best thing most anglers advise is to check different spots until you start catching some fish.
On the Susquehanna, walleye fishing has been good, mostly below the PPL dam. All types of crankbaits and core-shot 3 1/2-inch twisters in various colors are working well. A lot of the walleye have been small, but quite a few 18-inchers and over have been landed.
Smallmouth bass are still hitting well in most sections of the river. Magnum tubes and 3 1/2-inch regular tubes in green-and-pumpkin, smoke, and redbug colors have been the hot attractions this past week.
Muskie action has been fair. Most are being taken on Suick Thrillers, Buchertail Dancin' Raiders and Creek Chub 8-inch woodpikes.
A good rain and a rise in the water level is needed to get the fishing moving.
Most local lakes are producing well. If the next several weeks bring cooler temperatures as predicted, this should make for some good fall fishing.
n Southside Bait and Tackle, Sunbury
The river continues to remain very low and clear. Suspended moss and algae are a problem in some areas.
Bass fishing remains good. Top-water action has been steady, along with tubes and senkos.
Walleye action has been decent at times below the PPL dam. Most of the walleye have been caught at night or mornings and evenings. Chartreuse crankbaits and floating Rapalas in firetiger colors have taken some nice walleye. Some nice channel cats have been caught also.
Trout fishermen hitting the areas that were on the fall stocking list have been doing well on waxworms and small minnows.
