GIRLS BASKETBALL
MONTOURSVILLE — Top-seeded Mount Carmel blew into the District 4 Class AA girls semifinals with a 67-31 win over ninth-seeded Wellsboro on Saturday afternoon.
The two-time defending district champion Red Tornadoes (20-4) got a game-high 23 points from Ali Varano. Christina Perles added 15 points for Mount Carmel, which hit the 20-win mark for a third consecutive season.
The Red Tornadoes led 30-12 at halftime, limiting the Green Hornets to six points in each of the first two quarters. In the third period, Mount Carmel outscored Wellsboro 22-8 to forge a 32-point lead.
The Red Tornadoes will play No. 5 Muncy on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.
Halifax 64, Lebanon Catholic 46
LEBANON — With one double-double and double-digit points from two other players, the Wildcats took the District 3 Class A quarterfinal win at Lebanon Catholic High School.
Tess Kieffer had the double-double for No. 7-seeded Halifax (15-9). She scored 13 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.
Also for the Wildcats, Morgan Cox scored a game-high 17 points and Kylie Sorichetti chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds in the victory over the No. 2 seed.
Next up for Halifax in the semis is the winner of Bible Baptist and High Point Baptist. That game will be played on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at East Pennsboro High School.
Upper Dauphin 47, Mount Calvary 36
ELIZABETHTOWN — Trailing by five at the half, the Trojans outscored the Warriors 30-14 in the second half to take the D-3 Class A quarterfinal victory.
McKenzie Miller led No. 12 Upper Dauphin (11-11) with 12 points against the No. 4 seeds.
Upper Dauphin plays top-seeded Steel-High (20-4) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at East Pennsboro H.S. Steel-High beat Veritas Academy 112-26 Saturday.
INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Baylor 17th at PTFCA Championships
STATE COLLEGE — Lewisburg sophomore Blake Baylor finished 17th in the girls 800-meter run Saturday at the Pa. Track & Field Coaches Association Indoor State Championship at Penn State University.
Baylor posted a time of 2 minutes, 19.42 seconds, which was just two seconds shy of the top 10 finishers.
Emma Keenan of Gwnedd-Mercy won by more than three seconds with a time of 2:10.28.
