HUGHESVILLE -- Coming off its first District 4 championship in program history, Lewisburg still looks like it is a long way from being satisfied.
The Green Dragons had another offensive explosion Tuesday night in their PIAA Class AA first-round playoff game with Montrose. Kalyn Fisher scored two goals and assisted on two others as Lewisburg romped to a 6-1 victory at Raymond H. Perritt Stadium.
"Playing well in the playoffs is what it's all about," Green Dragons coach Jose Vega said. "So far it's been great."
Lewisburg (20-2-1), which has now outscored its opponents 28-3 in five playoff games, will meet St. Pius X -- a 2-0 winner Tuesday over Upper Dauphin -- in Saturday's quarterfinals at a site and time to be determined.
"Hopefully we can go forward and move on," Vega said.
It was a big day for District 4 girls soccer in the AA bracket. Loyalsock and Montoursville also won, and will meet in the quarterfinals Saturday at Hughesville (time TBA). Those same three were also among the East's final four last year; Montoursville eventually won the state title.
"This year we were hoping to do better or the same as last year," Fisher said. "Just getting (this far) is really exciting."
Fisher scored on a header in the 18th minute Tuesday, but then the Green Dragons had trouble finishing. They put nine other shots on goal in the half, but Meteors keeper Katelyn Spellman kept the score at 1-0 at halftime.
It didn't stay that way long, as Lewisburg exploded for three goals in a five-minute span early in the second half to put it away.
Jenny Byerly scored off a Fisher assist, Lauren Gargano buried one off another Fisher assist, and Emily Cole took a pass from Brittany Reber and scored to make it 4-0.
"We just kind of regrouped and realized that if we had the ball down there, it should go in sometime," said Fisher, who now has 21 goals and 13 assists on the year.
"The second goal always ... means less pressure and we are just able to play."
"For some reason they gave us a lot of space in the midfield," Vega said. "We took advantage of that."
Fisher scored her second goal of the night on an assist from Byerly in the 61st minute and Cole finished the scoring with a tally in the 72nd minute.
Montrose (10-6), the District 2 champion, got on the board in the 67th minute when Amelia DiPhillips found the back of the net.
"I told them about their lack of intensity in the first half," Vega said.
"They were just going through the motions. ... They did a great job in the second half. They played with intensity and moved the ball."
