Roundup: Seals defeat Panthers in HAC-I matchup

GIRLS BASKETBALL

SELINSGROVE — Lauren Hackenburg did her damage inside the scoring column, while KateLynn Strickler did her’s outside of it as they led Selinsgrove to a 52-36 victory over Milton in a Heartland Athletic Conference Division I matchup on Monday.

Hackenburg scored a game-high 20 points in the game, including four 3-pointers in the first quarter as Selinsgrove (6-9, 3-6 HAC-I) got out to a 19-8 lead.

Strickler, on the other hand, didn’t score a single point in the game for the Seals, but she pulled down 11 rebounds and had four blocks to lead the team defensively.

Mandy Metzger and Ali Derr scored nine points apiece for Milton (8-10).

Tri-Valley 39, Lourdes Regional 37

HEGINS — The Bulldogs surprised the Red Raiders by pulling out the Schuylkill League win.

Jen Kalinowski scored 13 points and Christina Perles had 10 to lead Lourdes (13- 3).

BOYS BASKETBALL

East Juniata 80, Newport 76

COCOLAMUS — Tyler Dressler and Tyler Erhard scored 23 points apiece as the Tigers took the Tri-Valley League victory.

A third Tyler (Inch), added 16 points in the winning effort for East Juniata (9-10, 1-3 TVL).

Zach Cree led all scorers with 25 points for Newport.

Williamsport 61, Danville 53

WILLIAMSPORT — The Millionaires pulled off some more magic at the Magic Dome by upsetting the Ironmen in a non-league game.

The game was tied at 10 after the first quarter, but Williamsport (3-14) out-scored Danville (10-5) 33-25 in the second and third quarters to take control.

Ryan Reichard and Anthony Renz scored 16 points apiece to lead the Ironmen, while Mikeal Owens-Wright added 11.

Lewisburg 75, Montoursville 36

MONTOURSVILLE — Robbie Gaines scored 18 points, while Kyle Ranck had 15 and Cam Cassels 14 as the Green Dragons took the Heartland Athletic Conference cross-over win.

Nathan Vazquez added 10 steals and nine assists to go along with his four points for Lewisburg (10-7).

WRESTLING

Selinsgrove 43, Panther Valley 27

SELINSGROVE — Isaiah Shipman’s pin in the middle of the match, and Tim Laubscher’s pin late in the contest clinched the Seals’ non-league victory.

Shipman’s pin in the 285- pound bout gave Selinsgrove (5-6) a 31-15 lead before Laubscher’s pin put the match out of Panther Valley’s reach.

“We had a good overall team effort. We got big wins from Shipman and Laubscher, and it was a huge win for us,” said Selinsgrove coach Todd Myers.
