BOYS BASKETBALL
MIFFLINBURG — Selinsgrove stuck with Mifflinburg through the first three quarters, but in the fourth the Wildcats would pull away and take a 76-60 Heartland Athletic Conference Division I victory on Saturday.
“It was a really tough game through three quarters,” said Mifflinburg coach Eldon Hoy.
Mifflinburg (14-1, 7-0 HACI) led just 50-47 after the third quarter before the Wildcats scored 26 points in the fourth to go on cruise control the rest of the way.
Selinsgrove (5-7, 3-4) hung around in the game thanks to Ryan Keiser, who had a teamhigh 18 points.
“Keiser played a fantastic game. Athletically, he’s very good and he hit some jumpers here and there and it helped Selinsgrove stay in the game,” said Hoy.
Mifflinburg was led by Zac Hoy, who scored 27 points, including 21 in the second half.
Connor Pierce added 13 points for the Wildcats.
Lewisburg 49, Mount Carmel 46
LEWISBURG — Despite a low-scoring fourth quarter, the Green Dragons held to beat the Red Tornadoes for the HAC-II victory.
Shakiel Rice scored 13 points and Cam Cassels had 10 for Lewisburg (8-6, 4-3 HAC-II).
Seth Scicchitano scored 21 points and T.J. Heromin had 15 for Mount Carmel (5-8, 3-4).
Montoursville 52, Milton 48
MILTON — A strong fourth quarter almost gave the Black Panthers their first HAC-I win of the year, but the Warriors held on for the close victory.
Chad Diggan scored 15 points and Kylin Hoffman had 13 to lead Milton (2-13, 0-7), which outscored Montoursville (4-9, 3-4) 21-15 in the fourth quarter.
Loyalsock 89, Midd-West 49
MIDDLEBURG — Tyler Bogacyzk scored 15 points as the Lancers took the HAC-II win.Mike Iaderosa tallied 16 points to lead Midd-West (4-8, 2-4 HAC-II).
Loyalsock improves to 12-1 overall.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
North Schuylkill 47, Mifflinburg 43 (OT)
MIFFLINBURG — The double-digit efforts of the Valentine sisters weren’t enough as the Spartans edged the Wildcats for the nonleague victory.
Bryanna Valentine had 10 points, while Alexis Valentine had 11 points and 14 rebounds for Mifflinburg (4-9).
Line Mountain 52, Troy 48
TROY — A big first quarter by Canton put Line Mountain in an early hole, but the Eagles switched to a man defense after that to shut down the Bulldogs and take the nonleague win.
Paige Swineford had nine pints, nine assists and five steals, while Kasey Long had 26 points and Kelsey Lagerman had six points and nine rebounds for the Eagles.
WRESTLING
Shikellamy 48, State College 13
STATE COLLEGE — The Braves got warmed up for their showdown with the nationallyranked Central Mountain Wildcats on Tuesday by crushing the Little Lions in a Big 7 League matchup.
Shikellamy (11-2, 2-0 BSL) cruised to the win by taking the final six bouts, including two by pin. Getting pins for the Braves were Jake Witmer (103) and Dominick Wolfe (189).
Next up for No. 16 stateranked Shikellamy is Central Mountain, which is ranked seventh in the country.
Danville 40, Williamsport 30
WILLIAMSPORT — The Millionaires won the final five bouts of the match, but the Ironmen still took the HAC-I victory.
Getting pins for Danville (13- 4 overall) were Zach Vanderslice (152), Vladimir Hoegar (171) and Dylan Dailey (189).
North Schuylkill Tourn.
FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Behind a 5-0 day from Cody Zechman at 135 pounds and a 4-0 day by Spencer Myers at 215, Selinsgrove placed second in the round-robin tournament.
Whitehall was the champion.
Out of his five wins, Zechman had two technical falls and two pins, while Myers had three pins and a tech. fall. Mike Ede also went 4-1 at 160 pounds. He had one pin and two major decisions.
BOYS BOWLING
Midd-West 4, Milton 0
SELINSGROVE — Channing Bowers, Josh Snyder and Dalton Weaver each had a 600 series to lead the Mustangs to the Heartland Athletic Conference win.
Bowers led the way with a 665 series for Midd-West (17-3) on games of 234 and 242. Snyder added a 267 game and a 644 series for the Mustangs.
Shikellamy 4, Danville 0
SUNBURY — Jake Snyder’s 742 series on games of 276 and 279 lifted the Braves to the HAC victory. Ross Massa added a 680 series for Shikellamy (15-5).
GIRLS BOWLING
Midd-West 4, Milton 0
SELINSGROVE — Jess Remphrey had games of 240, 212 and 211 for a 663 series in the Mustangs’ HAC win over the Black Panthers. Midd-West improves to 16-4.
Shikellamy 4, Danville 0
SUNBURY — A 677 series from Shelby Derr and a 613 by Evelyn Pehowic propelled the Braves to the HAC win.
