BOYERTOWN —
The Milton American Legion team has an interesting question in front of it today when it opens the State American Legion Tournament at Bears Stadium at Boyertown.
Do you want to play the hottest team in the tournament? Or would you rather play arguably one of the two best teams in the tournament?
Milton’s going to find out the answers to those questions beginning today. Post 71 opens up with one of the hottest teams in the state tournament in Penn Hills at 4 p.m. Meanwhile, the other side of the brackets features West Hempfield and Doylestown, two teams with a combined 59-10 record. Those teams clash at 9:30 a.m. in the first game of the tournament.
Milton (21-3) faces Region 6 champion Penn Hills. Penn Hills (16-10) struggled through most of the baseball season this year as its high school team finished 3-16 and its American Legion squad was just 8-10 entering the Allegheny East playoffs. However, Penn Hills caught fire at the perfect time, upsetting Allegheny East champion Springfield and winning all five games at the Region 6 Tournament. Penn Hills is on an eight-game winning streak.
