Ferguson's tally good for 'Cats

BOYS SOCCER

WILLIAMSPORT -- Only a single goal is needed to win a soccer match, and for Mifflinburg, that goal came from Clair Ferguson.

Ferguson scored off a Logan Taylor assist in the 12th minute of the game to lead the Wildcats to a 1-0 victory over Williamsport in a Heartland-I matchup Monday.

Mifflinburg (4-1 overall), which led in shots 10-8, got a shutout from Nick Bachorski.

n Selinsgrove 6,

Milton 0

SELINSGROVE -- After he assisted on a Kyle Davies goal to give the Seals a 3-0 halftime lead, Kaelan Sullivan tallied a pair of goals in the second half to put the HAC-I victory away for the hosts.

Brady Dunkle and Dustin Moyer added first-half goals for Selinsgrove (4-0, 2-0 HAC-I), while David Aurand chipped in a second-half goal for the Seals.

n Midd-West 8,

Shikellamy 0

SUNBURY -- Jake and Colton Keister combined to score five goals as the Mustangs cruised to the HAC-I victory.

Devaughn Jones, Tyler Arbogast and Eric Liddington tallied the other goals for Midd-West.

n East Juniata 2,

Greenwood 1 (OT)

COCOLAMUS -- Spencer Reinford scored off a Landon Sheaffer assist 6:15 into the extra period to lift the Tigers to the Tri-Valley League win. Jake Sankey and Zane Lauver combined on the other goal for East Juniata (3-1, 2-0 TVL).

Mount Carmel 1

COAL TOWNSHIP -- Matt Gass tallied three goals and also two assists to lead the Indians to the HAC-II win. Theo Deptula added added a goal and two assists for Shamokin (2-1, 1-1 HAC-II).

n Northumberland Chr. 5,

NORTHUMBERLAND -- David Mahoney had three goals and an assist for a four-point day for the Warriors in the nonleague win. Northumberland Christian improves to 8-0.

Upper Dauphin 3

MANDATA -- Deidre Long scored four goals and had an assist in the Eagles' Tri-Valley League win over the Trojans. Tia Kissinger added a goal and two assists for Line Mountain (2-0-1 overall).

n Meadowbrook Chr. 4,

Montgomery 1

MILTON -- Madison Burrows' two second-half goals not only secured the Lions' nonleague win, but they also gave her another hat trick on the season. Kyla Bordner assisted on both of Burrows' two second-half goals, while Sarah Marks scored the other goal for Meadowbrook (3-2).

Muhlenberg Christian 3

HUNLOCK CREEK -- Following hat tricks from both Alyssa Wesner and Bethany Severn, newcomers Mandy Severn and Gwen Hudson got into the scoring column for the first time as the Warriors took the nonleague win.

Mandy Severn scored the final goal of the game for Northumberland (8-1), and Hudson assisted on the play.

GIRLS TENNIS

n Milton 3, Jersey Shore 2

MILTON -- A three-set win at No. 1 doubles by Julia Spear and Jenna Bowersox helped lift the Black Panthers to the HAC-I win. Spear and Bowersox beat Julia Ely and Jordan Collins, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 for Milton (5-4).

n Danville 4, Shikellamy 1

DANVILLE -- Tiara Bartol's 6-0, 6-0 win over Kiona Robbins at No. 1 singles for the Braves prevented the Ironmen from taking the shutout victory. Danville improves to 5-2.

GOLF

n HAC-I

WILLIAMSPORT -- Midd-West beat Shikellamy by 13 strokes, 333-346, to take the match held at Williamsport Country Club.

Adam Winey and Blake Zechman shot a 76 and 78, respectively, to lead Midd-West (17.5-2.5), which now only trails Shikellamy (18-2) by a half game in the standings.

C.J. Tyler carded a 75 to lead the Braves.

Selinsgrove (6-13.5) was led by a 75 from Colin Rice.

n HAC-II

BERWICK -- With three players shooting in the 70s, Danville easily beat runner-up Central Columbia, 322-343, to claim the match played at Berwick Country Club.

Austin Renz led Danville (19-1) with a 75, while Zach Schutter had a 78 and Robbie Seebold a 79.

Lewisburg (15-5) finished third, but had all four of its scoring golfers shoot in the 80s. Ben Apple led the way with an 86, while Russell Nash had an 88 and both Will Sumfest and Nick Chamberlin had 89s for the Green Dragons.
