High School Roundup: Selinsgrove girls upset Milton

GIRLS BASKETBALL

SELINSGROVE -- While Nicole Deckard and Mandy Metzger were dueling away for Selinsgrove and Milton respectively, the Seals had the scorers to back Deckard up as they upset the Black Panthers for a 59-51 victory in a Heartland Athletic Conference Division I matchup Saturday.

Kirsten Craig-Sovic chipped in with 15 points and Eleanor Fina added four points and eight rebounds for Selinsgrove (4-8, 3-3 HAC-I), which had six players score at least four points.

Metzger also tallied 22 points and Maddi Krebs had 12 for Milton (9-5, 5-2).

Warrior Run 45, Hughesville 26

HUGHESVILLE -- Shawnee Lutcher had 14 points and Tay Parker chipped in with 12 to lead the Defenders to the HAC-II win. Warrior Run improves to 11-4, 3-4 in the conference.

Loyalsock 57, Lewisburg 40

LEWISBURG -- The Lancers limited the Green Dragons to only 13 first-half points to take the HAC-II matchup.

Emily Lesher led Lewisburg (4-9, 1-6 HAC-II) with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Tri-Valley 55, Line Mountain 38

HEGINS -- Kasey Long and Mikhail Whitcomb scored 11 points apiece, but it wasn't good enough for the Eagles to beat the Bulldogs. Line Mountain falls to 10-4, while Tri-Valley improves to 12-3.

Palmyra 58, Upper Dauphin 45

ELIZABETHVILLE -- Despite a late run, the Trojans fell behind by 14 points at the break to fall in the nonleague game. Kayleigh Ney scored 12 points to lead Upper Dauphin (7-8).

Lourdes Regional 75, Pius X 25

COAL TOWNSHIP -- Sarah Getchey had 21 points and Devan Dyszel had seven steals and seven rebounds to go along with three points and three assists to lead the Red Raiders in the Schuylkill League matchup. A total of 12 players scored at least two points for Lourdes.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Mifflinburg 62, Jersey Shore 35


MIFFLINBURG -- The first half of the game was dictated by the Bulldogs, but in the second half the Wildcats took over and cruised to a Heartland Athletic Conference Division I win.

Mifflinburg (13-1, 7-0 HAC-I) led just 20-18 at the half. In the second half the Wildcats made the game more up-tempo and they finished with four players in double figures.

"It was a very slow game in the first half," said Mifflinburg coach Eldon Hoy. "The kids adapted to how the game was going and changed it in the second half and got it to an up-and-down style of game."

Zac Hoy finished with 24 points and seven steals for the Wildcats, while Corey Murtha had 11 points and 10 rebounds, Connor Pierce had 11 points and five steals, and Travis Trutt had 12 points.

Telef Notevarp had 16 points for Jersey Shore (6-7, 2-5).

Lewisburg 60, Montoursville 45

LEWISBURG -- The Green Dragons jumped out to a 22-4 lead after the first quarter to roll for the HAC-II victory.

Marcus Meslener had 12 points and seven rebounds and Steven Normington scored 14 points for Lewisburg (8-2, 5-2 HAC-II).

Halifax 49, Selinsgrove 40

HALIFAX -- A slow start by the Seals resulted in a low-scoring affair and a loss to the Wildcats in the nonleague matchup.

Zach Rager tallied 11 points and had nine rebounds for Selinsgrove (5-7), which scored only 18 points in the first half.

"It was a very disappointing loss for the Seals," said Selinsgrove coach Ray Moyer.

Midd-West 55, Line Mountain 42

MIDDLEBURG -- Mike Iaderosa hit three 3-pointers and scored 21 points to lead the Mustangs to the nonleague win.

Eric Fredrick and Jeremy Payne added 10 points apiece for Midd-West (6-6), which used a 22-point fourth quarter to pull away from Line Mountain.

Mike Marciniak led the Eagles with 18 points.

Greenwood 43, Church Farm School 35

MILLERSTOWN -- Cam Hinkel and Tyler Warner scored 13 and 10 points respectively, as the Wildcats took the nonleague win. Greenwood improves to 15-0.

BOYS BOWLING

Lewisburg 3, Shikellamy 1


SUNBURY -- Nevin Duclos had games of 267, 248 and 215 to finish with a 730 series as he led the Green Dragons to the HAC win.

Jeremy Roberts and Andrew Hans added a 600 series for Lewisburg (7-9).

Tim Botts, Zack Williams, Brant Houghton and Matt Botts all had a 600 series for Shikellamy (7-9).

Midd-West 4, Central Columbia 0

SELINSGROVE -- Luke Zimmerman had a high game of 239 and a 625 series as the Mustangs took the HAC win. Jacob Klaus added a 223 game and Josh Snyder had a 615 series for Midd-West (17-3).

GIRLS BOWLING

Shikellamy 4, Lewisburg 0


SUNBURY -- Shelby Derr's conference-best 723 series paved the way for the Braves' HAC victory.

Derr had games of 245, 221 and 257 on the day, while McKensie Haines added a 659 series on games of 246 and 233 for Shikellamy (16-0).

Amanda Shoemaker had a 623 series for Lewisburg (7-9).

Midd-West 3, Central Columbia 1

SELINSGROVE -- After losing the first team game by 13 pins, the Mustangs came back to take the HAC match. Jenna Yarger had a 574 series and Danielle Goss had a 562 for Midd-West (16-4).

WRESTLING

Milton 42, Warrior Run 35


TURBOTVILLE -- The Black Panthers had five pins and so did the Defenders, but the visitors were able to pull out the HAC interdivisional matchup.

Milton improves to 6-6, while Warrior Run falls to 6-7.

Mifflinburg 46, Penns Valley 21

MIFFLINBURG -- Alan Miller (140 pounds) and Trent Lyons (189) recorded falls for the Wildcats, who easily took the nonleague win. Mifflinburg (12-1) also got technical falls from Clark Wagner (119) and Ty Walter (171).
