HS Roundup: Powlus reaches milestone in rout

GIRLS BASKETBALL

NORTHUMBERLAND -- Senior forward Rebecca Powlus scored her 1,000th career point, and it came in a dominating 57-17 win by Sunbury Christian over Columbia County Christian in an Allegheny Christian Athletic Association game Tuesday.

Powlus finished with six points, while Carissa Erdman had 11 points and Abby Daddario had eight points and six steals for Sunbury Christian (21-2, 9-0 ACAA), which outscored Columbia County (2-15) 39-6 in the first half.

COAL TOWNSHIP -- The Seals gave the Indians a late-season test by pulling off the Heartland Athletic Conference Division I upset.

Brianna Brancato had 14 points and Lauren Hackenburg scored 12 to lead Selinsgrove (7-10, 4-7).

The Seals had to come back for the victory, outscoring the Indians (15-5, 9-3) 13-7 in the fourth quarter.

Summer Reigle scored 17 points and Mary Kate Kelley chipped in 10 for Shamokin.

Minersville 42

MINERSVILLE -- Christina Perles had 15 points, nine rebounds and five steals to lead the Red Raiders to the Schuylkill League win.

Devan Dyszel added 10 points, five rebounds, three steals and three assists for Lourdes (16-3 overall).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Schuylkill Haven 38

COAL TOWNSHIP -- Matt Gilger and Mike Bastian scored 20 points apiece as the Red Raiders took the Schuylkill League victory.

Gilger also dished out nine assists and had six rebounds and three steals to lead Lourdes in those three categories as well.

SELINSGROVE -- The Seals received seven forfeits and also got a pin from Trent Blair at 152 to down the Black Panthers in the Heartland Athletic Conference Division I matchup.

Eric Wolfe (119), Taylor Porter (125) and Kody Koser (130) all had pins for Milton.
