GIRLS BASKETBALL

SELINSGROVE -- Brittney Kuhns' 3-pointer with under 19 seconds left in regulation tied the game before Midd-West pulled out a 51-44 overtime win over Selinsgrove in a Heartland Athletic Conference Division I matchup on Tuesday.

And then in the overtime period, Kuhns would nail all four of her free throws as Midd-West (8-8, 6-3 HAC-I) scored seven points to none for Selinsgrove (6-10, 3-7).

Kuhns finished with 11 points, while Christina DiBartolomeo led the way with 20 points and seven blocks and Taylor Folk had 10 points for the Mustangs.

"Three of my five starters were in double figures and we played really well tonight," said Midd-West coach Danielle Warntz. "We took care of the ball, made our foul shots and made the plays at the end."

Lauren Hackenberg led the Seals with 20 points of her own.

Mifflinburg 40, Montoursville 25

MIFFLINBURG -- Alexis Valentine had a double-double, and her sister, Bryanna, almost posted one herself in the Wildcats' HAC-I victory.

Alexis Valentine had 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Bryanna Valentine had eight points and 13 rebounds for Mifflinburg (6-11, 5-6 HAC-I).

Milton 46, Jersey Shore 26

JERSEY SHORE -- Ali Derr's game-high 21 points lifted the Black Panthers to the HAC-I win.

Maddi Krebs added 10 points for Milton (9-10, 6-5 HAC-I), which held Jersey Shore to only nine points through the first three quarters.

Central Columbia 62, Lewisburg 51

ALMEDIA -- The Blue Jays had three players score at least 15 points in the game as they took the HAC-II win.

Shannon Phillips led Central with 20 points and Alyssa DeWalt added 18.

Jenny Meslener scored 15 points to lead Lewisburg (15-3, 9-2 HAC-II).

Southern Columbia 70, Warrior Run 49

TURBOTVILLE -- Ali Oley made 12 baskets, including three 3-pointers, and finished with a game-high 28 points in the Tigers' HAC-II victory over the Defenders.

Cynthia Adams added 18 points and Jordan Marks had 14 for Southern (9-8 overall).

Kristin Keiser tallied 22 points and Shawnee Lutcher added 16 for Warrior Run (11-8).

Danville 44, Mount Carmel 30

DANVILLE -- Abbi Woll scored 13 of her game-high 17 points in the second half to propel the Ironmen to the HAC interdivisional win.

Line Mountain 55, Juniata 42

MANDATA -- Kelsey Lagerman had a double-double and Paige Swineford had a good all-around night as the Eagles took the Tri-Valley League win.

Lagerman had 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Swineford had eight points, seven assists and six steals for Line Mountain, which also got 17 points from Kasey Long.

Greenwood 55, Newport 21

MILLERSTOWN -- Autumn Pellman scored 20 points and Sara Howell had 13 as the Wildcats took the TVL victory.

Salene Shaffer chipped in with an additional 10 points for Greenwood (13-4, 4-0 TVL).

Upper Dauphin 54, Halifax 42

ELIZABETHVILLE -- Brittany Warfel had 15 points and four steals, while Madison Miller had nine points and 12 rebounds to lead the Trojans to the TVL win.

Warfel scored nine of her points in the fourth quarter to pave the way for Upper Dauphin (7-10, 2-2 TVL). Macy Ryan added six points and eight rebounds for the Trojans.

Sunbury Christian 47, Northumberland Chr. 25

NORTHUMBERLAND -- Molly Gutelius scored 17 points and Abby Daddario had 10 points and five steals to lead the Eagles to the Allegheny Christian Athletic Association win.

Rebecca Powlus added six points and nine rebounds for Sunbury Christian (19-2, 8-0 ACAA).

Lindsey Furman scored 11 points to lead Northumberland Christian (14-8, 5-3).

Meadowbrook Chr. 48, New Covenant 27

MANSFIELD -- A 21-point second quarter blew the game wide open for the Lions as they took the ACAA win.

Meg DeWire had 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead Meadowbrook (7-10, 4-4 ACAA), while Emily Martz added 13 points for the Lions.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lourdes Regional 43, Tri-Valley 37

COAL TOWNSHIP -- Zack Chesney had 13 points and Chris Loftus had six points and 10 rebounds to lead the Red Raiders to the Schuylkill League win. Joe Gownley added 10 points for Lourdes.

Meadowbrook Chr. 45, New Covenant 17

MANSFIELD -- Ryan Torrey and Dan Shaffer scored 16 and 12 points, respectively, as the Lions took the Allegheny Christian Athletic Association win. Meadowbrook Christian improves to 13-5, 7-1 ACAA.

Northumberland Chr. 44, Sunbury Christian 11

NORTHUMBERLAND -- The Warriors held the Eagles scoreless through the first half as they cruised to the ACAA win.

Aaron York paced Northumberland (16-3, 7-1 ACAA) with 10 points.

WRESTLING

Montgomery 47, Milton 27

MILTON -- The Black Panthers got pins from Kody Koser (125) and Ryan Solomon (215) and a technical fall from Eric Wolfe (119), but it wasn't enough as the Red Raiders took the nonleague win.

    It's difficult to recall exactly how the sequence unfolded because it happened so darn fast. Shikellamy made a couple baskets, and the crowd began to stir. It was still anybody's game, and the Braves had some momentum late in the third quarter of a recent run with Danville.

    MADRID -- Alberto Contador was stripped of his 2010 Tour de France title Monday and banned for two years after sports' highest court found the Spanish cyclist guilty of doping. The Court of Arbitration for Sport suspended the three-time Tour champion after rejecting his claim that his positive test for clenbuterol was caused by eating contaminated meat on a 2010 Tour rest day.

    CATAWISSA -- In a battle between two schools better known for their football programs, Monday's game between host Southern Columbia and Selinsgrove naturally featured plenty of physical play. After a combined 43 fouls and 55 free-throw attempts, the Seals finally pulled it out. Reserve guard Tyler Krebs made five foul shots in the final minute and a half in Selinsgrove's 54-53 victory.

    SUNBURY -- The name might have changed, but the results were the same. Now called the 13th annual Best Bowl/Strike Zone High School Pro-Am Scholarship Challenge, the two-day tournament was another success as it pitted some of the Valley's best young bowlers against each other in friendly competition.
