GIRLS BASKETBALL
MIDDLEBURG — Midd- West’s half-court trap not only produced a lot of steals, but it also led to the Mustangs’ 40-29 victory over Montoursville in Heartland Athletic Conference Division I action Friday.
Christina DiBartolomeo scored 13 points and Brittney Kuhns added 10 for Midd- West (7-8, 5-3 HAC-I).
Jillian Gleason had 16 points for Montoursville (8-9, 4-5).
Mifflinburg 40, Milton 36
MILTON — With the game deadlocked after three, the Wildcats outscored the Black Panthers in the final period to take the HAC-I win.
Katie Oliveri scored 13 points and Bryanna Valentine had 10 for Mifflinburg (5-10, 4-6 HAC-I).
Madison Krebs scored 12 points to lead Milton (8-9, 5-4), which also got 11 points from Ali Derr and 10 from Mandy Metzger.
Shikellamy 62, Selinsgrove 22
SELINSGROVE — The Braves beat the Seals in every facet of the game in taking the HAC-I win.
Kelly Bickel scored 21 points, while Megan Slonaker had 12 and Alexis Angstadt chipped in 11 for Shikellamy (13-4, 8-1 HAC-I).
“Shamokin and Shikellamy are clearly the top two teams in the league, and it’ll take somebody else to step up (to beat them),” said Selinsgrove coach Scott Kerstetter.
Selinsgrove falls to 4-9, 2-6.
Loyalsock 53, Danville 44
LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP — Sam Zampetti and Abbi Woll scored a combined 30 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Ironmen fell in the HAC-II matchup.
Danville falls to 11-6, 4-5 in the conference. Loyalsock is 11-5, 7-2.
Upper Dauphin 39, East Juniata 35
ELIZABETHVILLE — Courtney Rudisill scored all of the Trojans’ fourth quarter points as Upper Dauphin held on to pick up the Tri-Valley League victory.
Rudisill finished the game with 16 points, including seven in the fourth quarter, and added five steals for Upper Dauphin (6-10 overall, 1-2 TVL second half). Madison Miller chipped in for the Trojans with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Mackenzie Truitt led East Juniata (4-13, 1-2) with eight points.
Shamokin 70, Jersey Shore 31
COAL TOWNSHIP — Cassie Grow scored 16 points and she was just one of three double-figure scorers for the Indians in the HAC-I win.
Tanika Gonzalez and Tara Sabotchick tallied 14 and 13 points, respectively, for Shamokin.
Lewisburg 41, Hughesville 25
LEWISBURG — Nine players reached the scoring column as the Green Dragons dominated the HAC-II game.
Chelsea Boyer scored eight points, while Jenny Meslener added seven points for Lewisburg (14-2, 8-1 HAC-II).
Southern Columbia 58, Central Columbia 49
CATAWISSA — Cynthia Adams scored a game-high 27 points as Tigers dominated the second-half of the HAC-II game and picked up the victory.
The Tigers got off to a slow start scoring only 16 points in the first half but came back in the second half and outscored the Blue Jays, 42-24.
Ali Oley added 15 points for Southern (8-7, 6-3 HAC-II).
Shannon Phillips had 21 points to lead Central (7-10, 4-6).
Northumberland Chr. 55, Immanuel Christian 41
FREELAND — Alyssa Wesner’s impressive doubledouble of 27 points and 27 rebounds led to the Warriors’ taking the nonleague victory.
Shelby Derr added 20 points for Northumberland Christian (14-7).
Sunbury Christian 57, Muhlenberg Christian 13
HUNLOCK CREEK — Taryn Borich and Molly Gutelius scored in double figures for the Eagles as they won the nonleague game.
Borich scored 13 points, while Gutelius chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds and Rebecca Powlus added eight points and pulled down nine boards for Sunbury Christian (18-2).
BOYS BASKETBALL
Selinsgrove 59, Montoursville 50
MONTOURSVILLE — A fourth-quarter run keyed by Ryan Keiser lifted the Seals to the Heartland Athletic Conference Division I win.
Selinsgrove (8-8, 5-4 HACI) started the game on an 8-2 run, but Kyle Kepner scored 10 of his 13 points in the first quarter to keep Montoursville (4-11, 3-6) close.
The Warriors carried a one-point lead into halftime and they led by three after three and that’s when Keiser and the rest of the Seals woke up.
Keiser scored eight of his game-high 17 points in the fourth as Selinsgrove outscored Montoursville 20-10 in the period to pull out the victory.
Keiser also had 12 rebounds and six blocks on the night.
“It was a close game.
Montoursville scrapped the whole game and they played us pretty tough,” said Selinsgrove coach Ray Moyer. “They played without Berresford (who was on a college trip), and they played inspired basketball.”
Dan Ryan added 14 points for the Seals and Alex Lupolt had 10.
Williams Valley 65, Lourdes Regional 35
TOWER CITY — The Vikings out-scored the Red Raiders 17-2 in the first quarter to roll to the Schuylkill League win. Lourdes falls to 5-10 overall.
Meadowbrook Chr. 66, CMVT 57
MILTON — Three players scoring in double figures, lifting the Lions to the nonleague victory.
Ryan Torrey led Meadowbrook (12-5) with a gamehigh 34 points, while Dan Shaffer and Danny Lynd added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Edward Donnelly had 21 points for Columbia Montour Vo-Tech. (2-11).
WRESTLING
New Oxford Tournament
NEW OXFORD — Following Friday’s round-robin action, a total of seven Line Mountain wrestlers advanced to today’s championship eight-man brackets. The remaining six Eagles are in the consolation bracket and are still alive in the tournament.
Advancing to the championship bracket are Zain Retherford (103), Seth Lansberry (112), Mason Zimmerman (119), Ryan Paul (125), Adam Kritzer (135), Travis Erdman (145) and Bryce Martz (215).
Retherford, Kritzer, Erdman and Martz are a combined 13-0 through the early rounds of the tourney.
