DANVILLE —
So many Shikellamy corner plays fizzled on Thursday that when one finally worked it appeared nothing short of perfect.
It was as if the X’s jumped off the whiteboard and executed just as drawn up, breaking a scoreless tie against Danville.
Cory Yerger stopped Kennedy Smith’s insert at the top left of the circle and switched the ball to Alexa Toevs on the left wing. Toevs angled a cross toward the right post, onto Jamey Halloran’s stick for a finish.
The goal, with fewer than 19 minutes left in the game, ended a frustrating string of eight empty corners. The Braves added another goal late to win the HAC-I matchup 2-0.
