American Legion baseball: Selinsgrove scores early in rout of Hughesville

HUGHESVILLE -- Selinsgrove scored 12 runs over the first three innings en route to a 14-4 American Legion crossover victory over Hughesville in five innings on Friday.

Catcher Nate Rovenolt went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in for Selinsgrove, while Brad Billings, Paul Eyster and Sean Meleski each drove in a pair of runs. Selinsgrove banged out 18 hits, scored in every inning, and didn't commit an error in the victory.

Left-handed pitcher Nick Gaugler struck out five and walked one for Selinsgrove, which closes the regular season with an 11-1 record and will enter next week's Susquehanna Valley League playoffs as the likely top seed.

Ethan Showers went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs for Hughesville (4-6).

DANVILLE -- Dan Winnie homered as part of Danville's 10-run first inning and Post 40 cruised to the SVALL crossover victory.

Winnie blasted a three-run shot in the first for Danville (9-4, 7-4) and Cody Cooper later hit a solo shot.

Kyle Pannebaker doubled twice for West Snyder while Steve Buttorf and James McCloskey each had two hits.

The American Legion crossover game between Sunbury/Northumberland and Lewisburg was postponed on Friday.

The game will be played this evening at Pineknotter Park in Northumberland, beginning at 8 p.m.
