SUNBURY — Raymond and Marie Davis recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
They were married on Jan. 31, 1953, at St. Michael’s Church in Shamokin.
Mrs. Davis is the former Marie Evanoski, daughter of the late Walter and Mary Evanoski, and Mr. Davis is the son of the late John and Mary Davis. They resided in Baltimore, moving back to this area in the late 60s. Mr. Davis is retired from the US Postal Service.
Mr. Davis is a Purple Heart Veteran, having served in the Navy during World War II. Until recent years, he and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United States attending reunions of his shipmates and their spouses. At 87, Raymond is one of just four surviving crew members of the F.C. Davis, DE136.
The couple was honored at a celebration held at Ghezzi’s Restaurant, hosted by their daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Dave Kniss, of Augustaville. The combination of icy weather and Mrs. Davis’ hospitalization due to complications from the flu has resulted in the delay of a second planned celebration at Harrah’s in Atlantic City, until mid-spring.
In addition to their daughter Joyce, the couple has four grandchildren, Phillip Gallo, Jennifer Kniss, and Natalie Zeigler, all local, and Brian Kniss, in Colorado. There are also nine great-grandchildren, with a 10th due in August.
