NEW COLUMBIA — Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Showers Jr., of New Columbia, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary recently with a party at the New Columbia Civic Building. The event, for 50 guests, was hosted by their family. An anniversary cake was baked by Peggy Doebler.
They were married May 21, 1942, in Evangelical United Brethren Church, White Deer, by the Rev. Samuel Snyder.
Mrs. Showers, the former Jean Prowant, is the daughter of the late Stewart and Grace (Clemens) Prowant. She retired as a nurses aide at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
Her husband is the son of the late Clyde and Caroline (Weikle) Showers Sr. He retired from Reading Railroad and Ceco Corporation.
They are the parents of one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Bonnie Showers, of West Milton; and one daughter, Susan Doebler, of New Columbia. There are also two grandchildren, Erin Doebler, of New Columbia, and Kristin Boettger and her husband Jason, of Dupont; and two great-grandchildren, Caden and Abigail Boettger, of Dupont.
