HERNDON — Rev. and Mrs. Charles H. Haffling, of Herndon, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 14, 2012, with an open house at the Grace Community Church Fellowship Hall, Herndon. The event, attended by 60 friends and family members, including all of the original members of their wedding party, was hosted by their children.
They were married July 14, 1962, at East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church by the Rev. Harold C. Eaton.
Mrs. Haffling is the former M. Diane Lambert.
Among several charges he served, Rev. Haffling was the pastor of God’s Missionary Church in Pillow from 1976 until 1986.
The couple moved back to Herndon in 2007 when Rev. Haffling retired from 40 years of ministry, of which the couple had most recently spent the last 21 years pastoring in Marcus Hook, near Philadelphia.
Although retired from the ministry, Rev. Haffling occupies his time doing light remodeling work, which he enjoys. Mrs. Haffling is a homemaker and a home health aide for Home Instead, Lewisburg.
They are the parents of three children, Greg and his wife Amy, of Martinsburg, daughter Yvonne Yoder and her husband Andrew, of Waynesboro, and son Keith and partner Liz Campbell, of Winchester, Va. A fourth and their youngest child, daughter Sheila, passed away in 2000. The couple has four grandchildren. During their marriage, they also cared for 22 foster children.
