Valley residents can win dental, vision makeovers

Akin to extreme make-overs shown on popular TV shows, a total makeover will soon be granted to a pair of Valley residents by two local doctors’ offices.

The residents’ journeys will be chronicled in The Daily Item and on WQKX as they receive teeth or vision improvements, new hair styles and clothing.

Dentist Lawrence J. Winans, DMD, of Lewisburg, and the Eye Center of Central PA, which has offices throughout the area, are sponsoring the makeover titled “A Brighter Smile, A Clearer Vision. Recognizing Generosity.”

“We’re very fortunate and blessed to be a part of this community and wanted to offer services to somebody that also does a lot and is a huge part of our community,” Winans said.

Winans and Robert Lamont, chief operating officer at the Eye Center, are asking area residents to nominate those who are in need of either teeth or vision improvements and have contributed to their communities through service projects.

Winans and Lamont will choose 10 finalists, who will then be featured online at www.dailyitem.com and wqkx.com. Two final recipients will then receive the make-overs, one receiving a smile makeover and the second receiving laser vision correction.

“I hope to help somebody who has worked tirelessly and made a difference in the community that might not be happy or proud of their smile,” said Winans, who will provide tooth bonding, veneers or other services the recipient needs.

“I think having good vision helps with confidence,” said Lamont, whose office will provide vision correction surgery. “The goal is to give a gift to someone who only thinks of others.”

Sculptures Salon in Northumberland and Advanced Skin Care Salon and Spa in Lewisburg will provide both recipients with services the day they reveal their new looks. A clothier will be chosen to also give the pair new clothing to be worn for the reveal.

The Daily Item articles will feature updates on the make-overs with photographs of both winners.

Applicants must be 18 or older and must reside in Union, Snyder, Montour or Northumberland counties where they have helped to better the lives of fellow residents.

Nomination forms can be found online at www.dailyitem.com and www.wqkx.com and picked up at any of the Eye Center locations, Winans' dental office, Advanced Skin Care Salon & Spa, Sculptures Salon, Sunbury Broadcasting and The Daily Item.

All applications must be received by Oct. 31 by fax or mail to Golden Proportions Marketing. Residents can then vote for make-over finalists online between Nov. 10 to Nov. 20.

Based on those results, two recipients will be chosen Nov. 21. Make-overs will be revealed Jan. 3 at the Lewisburg Hotel.

“It’s kind of the pay-it-forward effort that makes everybody feel good,” Lamont said.

SUNBURY — When President Barack Obama gives his jobs speech Thursday night before Congress and a nation facing a 9.1 unemployment rate, he should act to lower the minimum wage and taxes, target government investments wisely, spend on long-lasting projects, or cut spending, reduce regulations and trim the size of Washington, Valley experts suggested.
