As we begin to get into the full swing of the political “silly season,” I want to take a moment to point out why I think the economic stimulus package passed by the current Congress and supported by President Barack Obama was a good thing.
The “Party of No” is trying to paint the package as a waste of money, and claim that it’s done more harm than good to our economy.
Nothing could be further from the truth, in my opinion.
I believe the stimulus money is what kept our economy from going completely into the toilet, and that if that allows the supporters of former President Bush’s economic programs to regain control of the federal government, they will turn the steering wheel of the economy back over to the Wall Street greed heads who nearly drove us off the cliff.
In my case, the $8,000 home-buying credit allowed me to hire no less than four different local contractors to do improvements to the home I bought in the summer of 2009.
This worked out to better than three weeks of work combined, and it very well could have been income these contractors may never have earned had I not been able to hire them.
