I am deeply concerned for the future of public education and the Danville Area School District.
Last week, superintendent Cheryl Latorre was quoted as saying —¦as an educator and a mom, you don't want to see anything go … But when you look at your checkbook at home, you buy what you can afford, and that's where we're at."
My only response can be this: we're not buying Pop Tarts and Webkinz.
I am an educator with nearly 25 years of classroom experience. I am a father of two children. I am a homeowner and taxpayer in the Danville Area School District. I live on a very tight budget. Far from empty calorie snacks and feel good plush toys, the programs at our school district are investments in our children's future.
When my daughter and son are ready to go off to college, I will do everything in my power to see to it that they have that opportunity. Education is the key, it's the ticket to their future. They shouldn't suffer. They shouldn't worry. They're worth it.
As a parent and a member of this community, I believe that investing in our children's future is our solemn vow. Does anyone agree? Now is the time to let it be known.
