I'm writing to supplement information provided in a story appearing in this paper on Jan. 23. The story mentioned that Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way is adjusting its focus from fundraising to six social issues. For the thousands who support our work and did not hear full explanation at the annual meeting, it's important to emphasize that United Way will continue fundraising every year -- a big thanks to all who help us do that. With funds raised annually, United Way will support programs run by Valley agencies that are focused on six priorities (early childhood, drug and alcohol abuse/addiction, poverty, at-risk teens, diversity, transportation) with expectations that measured, positive changes will result and lives will be improved.
