Successful relay

Even though the weather was hot and humid this past weekend, it did not stop the enthusiasm of the many walkers and others from being at the 24-hour event of the 10th Annual Milton Relay for Life on Friday and Saturday at the Milton High School.

Many, many thanks to the following individuals, bands, and sound systems who donated their time and talent by providing entertainment for the event:

Equila Phelps, Lewisburg; Ken "Chuck" Barnhart (Starr Karaoke), Milton; Cindy Tarr and Susan Wajda (Sister Act), Milton; Surrender, Watsontown; Rich and Nathan Ahearn, Northumberland; Sauers Family Singers, Montoursville; Folk Justice Band, Lewisburg; Doug Stamm (Stamm's Sound System), Selinsgrove; Kitty Hummel (Susquehanna Valley CARTS Sound System), Milton; Back Roadz, Montgomery; and G.C. and Company, Trout Run.

Special thanks to John Smith, Riverfront Productions, Manheim; Dave Uber and Randy Carter of Kopy Kat Sound Productions, Ridgway, who provided the sound equipment and set up for the bands for the full 24 hours; American Legion Post 71 of Milton for their participation in the opening ceremony; Mayor Ed Nelson for his opening remarks and for signing the proclamation for the relay; and the Rev. Michael Druck, St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Milton for the opening prayer.

A thank you to the local newspapers and writers for printing relay articles, events, and for taking photos at the relay. Hats off to all who take the time to care what's going on in our community.

Thanks to radio stations 94KX and Big Country for doing a live remote.

Finally, a big thank you to all the members of the Relay Committee who plan this event as it takes a lot of teamwork, time, and effort to put an event like this together.

Kay Aikey,

Milton

  • Mutual aid is necessary

Mutual aid agreements in local law enforcement strike at the heart of basic small-town decency. When a neighbor is in need, those equipped to help ought to drop everything and spring to aid.

I am not a winner of a Pulitzer Prize, nor am I an author of best selling novels, I'm just a human being attempting to live life here on earth with purpose and I can find no greater way to do that than through my faith and my belief in God.
