KREAMER — A minor silo fire at Wood-Mode Inc. early Monday caused mininimal damage.
Company spokesman Thomas Morgensen said an investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing, but described the incident as “minor.”
Smoke was seen spilling out of the silo, one of two at the Kreamer facility, at about 6:55 a.m. as wood waste used to fire up the company’s boiler was being transferred from the dust collection and grinding system into the silo, he said.
There was very little wood waste in the silo at the time and several firefighters from local companies were able to put it out easily as production was briefly halted.
There were no injuries, Morgensen said.
“We think the damage is minimal,” he said.
The company’s second sawdust silo was not involved in Monday’s fire. The 75-foot structure was completely rebuilt following an April 2010 explosion that blew the metal lid off and onto employee Kenneth Walter’s parked car and briefly stopped production.
Prior fires in the company’s sawdust silos caused a temporary closure of the plant in November 2006 and June 2003.
