Warrior Run officials take action in gun threat

TURBOTVILLE — An argument on a Warrior Run school bus Thursday afternoon escalated to the point where a fifth-grader made a threat about getting a gun.

School officials have investigated the incident, but they will not disclose what steps they have taken in the case to protect the identity of the child accused of making the threat, Superintendent Daniel Sheaffer said.

Sheaffer said the district has taken steps to punish the child who made the threat and protect the victim. He refused to say whether the child who made the threat remained in school.

“We took appropriate action and notified the appropriate authorities to try to get help for the student and ensure the safety of the victim,” he said.

He said school officials take such threats seriously.

“You have to, in this day and age,” he said.

An investigation by school officials revealed no evidence that the child involved in the threat had access to a gun and revealed no evidence that the child had tried to obtain a gun, the superintendent said.

Sheaffer said parents who want a clear explanation about what the school is doing may be frustrated by his explanation of the response, but school officials have to respect the confidentiality of all those involved.

“We’re talking about a fifth-grader,” Sheaffer said.
