SUNBURY — Get your flip-flops out and put the snow boots away because the cold weather is coming to an end.
Just not at night.
Temperatures are getting ready to climb near 70 later this week, but nights will still be cold for another month, Accu-Weather.com meteorologist Andy Mussoline said.
Overall, Valley residents had some good luck during the winter of 2009-2010, he said.
Residents dodged a potential problem this weekend when the expected flooding turned out to be minor.
Some creeks overflowed their banks, but emergency centers in Montour, Northumberland, Union and Snyder counties reported no flooding-related problems on Sunday.
Temperatures were four degrees higher than average, and snowfall was about 3 inches below the average of 30 inches a season.
Mussoline said high pressure systems saved the Valley during the heaviest of snows this year.
“You weren’t that far away from getting hit pretty hard,” he said. “Consider it a lucky thing.”
Valley residents had only 18 days at or below freezing this year, he said.
But winter’s still here, for a little while.
“The final week looks pretty good,” he said. “But we certainly have to watch for some frosts to occur until late April or early May.”
