TREVORTON — The Line Mountain school board has taken an early, yet critical step toward the start of a $6 million project to add six classrooms and 53 parking spots at the Dalmatia Elementary School.
At Tuesday night’s board meeting, the directors agreed to have their architect move forward with submitting plans for the first two phases of the renovation project to the state Department of Education.
The project also includes an extension to the school’s cafeteria and the creation of a more secure and separate drop-off space for parents and buses. Once completed, there will be two designated areas in the parking lot, one side for visitors and parents dropping off children, the other for buses lining up to pick up or drop off students.
The parking lot project will cost $409,848.
Project manager Josh Bower, of Crabtree, Rohrbaugh and Associates Architects, of Mechanicsburg, was directed by the board to submit Plancon A and Plancon B to the state agency.
The motion to allow Bower to submit the plans was approved by an 8-0 vote.
Board members also said they intended to start work on the Leck Kill Elementary School. Bower was asked to start preparing bid specifications for that project.
District Superintendent Dave Campbell said the problem with funding for the renovations is that the grant money specifically targeted for the project might have time constraints. It may have to be spent by June.
Campbell told the board he’d research the issue.
The project would include a new air conditioning unit, at an estimated cost of $575,000. The plan also calls for work on doors and masonry.
