WILLIAMSPORT — A violent, head-on collision on Route 15 in Clinton Township, Lycoming County, claimed the life of a 57-year-old Williamsport man and Union County native. The other driver, a Milton resident, was critically injured.
David L. Kenamond, of 651 Lincoln Ave., a 1970 Mifflinburg Area High School graduate, was driving south on Route 15 in a 2003 Toyota Camry at about 7:25 p.m. Wednesday, when state police said a northbound 2001 Chrysler Town & Country van, driven by Andrea L. Golder, 49, of Milton, went out of control and swerved into his path.
The lead investigator, trooper Douglass Hoffman, said that evidence pointed to Kenamond trying to avoid the crash just before it occurred on the western berm.
Hoffman said the vehicles were going at least 55 mph, the posted speed limit, when they collided. It was raining at the time, and that might have been why Golder lost control of the van, he said.
Kenamond, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Golder, who was thrown from the van, was taken to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, and was listed in critical condition Thursday night.
Kenamond was valedictorian of the Class of 1970 at Mifflinburg and attended Bucknell University on a baseball scholarship. He earned a degree in civil engineering. He was employed by Andritz Inc., Muncy, for 35 years.
His mother, Sarah Kenamond, lives in Mifflinburg. He also is survived by his wife, Donna L. Slack Kenamond, and daughter, Tara, son-in-law, Chris Smith, and granddaughter, Brenna, of Montoursville.
