SELINSGROVE — A 20-year-old Snyder County jail inmate serving time for burglary is in more trouble for allegedly assaulting three correction officers.
Drew Alan Rodkey, of Selinsgrove, is accused of spitting at, punching, or kicking prison watch commander Edward Bennett and correction officers Michael VanSickle and Jason Royer on May 17 after he was cited for misconduct, state police at Selinsgrove said.
Rodkey had violated prison rules by removing thread from his socks and using it to hold his dreadlocks in place, the criminal complaint said.
He was given several warnings to remove the thread and received a written infraction when he didn’t comply.
Watch Commander Bennett ordered Rodkey be taken out of the common area of the jail at 600 Old Colony Road, Penn Township, and placed in restricted housing.
But as the officers approached him, Rodkey backed into his cell and ignored their instructions, the complaint said.
Resisting their efforts to transfer him, Rodkey allegedly spit at and punched Bennett in the face, knocking his eyeglasses off, spit on VanSickle’s arm and kicked Royer in the stomach.
Rodkey is scheduled to appear at a July 30 preliminary hearing before District Judge John T. Robinson on charges of felony assault by prisoner, aggravated harassment by prisoner, aggravated assault, and misdemeanor simple assault and harassment.
