Man dies after dive through 16th-story window

30-year-old found at River Front Apartments

SUNBURY -- A 30-year-old Carbon County man was found dead early Sunday morning outside the River Front Apartments after jumping headfirst through a 16th-floor window, according to Sunbury police.

Jeffrey J. Oliver, of Weatherly, reportedly got into a fight with his girlfriend at her mother's apartment just before midnight Saturday that ended with him becoming enraged and jumping through a closed window, police said.

Oliver was pronounced dead at 12:20 a.m. after his body was found in the grassy area on the southern side of the apartment building, 130 S. Front St.

The death was ruled a suicide and attributed to multiple blunt force trauma, according to Northumberland County Coroner James F. Kelley, who said Chief Deputy Coroner James R. Gotlob and Deputy Coroner Barry J. Leisenring also responded to the scene. Oliver's body will undergo toxicology testing, Kelley added.

Police said Oliver and his girlfriend, who was not identified, were alone in the apartment. The argument reportedly was sparked by Oliver's girlfriend telling him to pack up and leave the apartment, police said.
