MILTON — A convicted sex offender found living in the woods last month in Florida disappeared more than eight years ago from Milton.
James Galen Snyder, 36, who has no known address, was jailed in lieu of $200,000 bail after he was returned here from Florida last week. Sheriff’s deputies in Vero Beach, Indian River County, found Snyder living in the woods, according to arrest documents.
Snyder was charged by Milton police with failing to provide police with an address. As part of his conviction, Snyder is required to inform police within 10 days of any change of address.
Snyder was convicted in 1998 of multiple sexual offenses involving an underage girl.
He apparently left Milton around Aug. 22, 2000, authorities said, and his whereabouts were unknown until late January, when he was picked up in Florida.
