PITTSBURGH — Vince Lascheid, the longtime organist for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pirates, has died. He was 85.
His daughter, Mindy Lascheid-McKee, said Friday that he died overnight.
She says her father was humble and didn't like much attention, but enjoyed giving back. He also enjoyed giving lessons and played organ at church for 20 years.
Penguins spokesman Tom McMillan says Lascheid was a Pittsburgh original. Lascheid worked for the Penguins from 1970 to 2003 and is in the team's hall of fame.
Lascheid still worked part-time for the Pirates.
Lascheid-McKee recalls her father composing songs for every Pirates player at the beginning of each season. He did the same for Penguins.
Lascheid is survived by his wife, Linda, and five children.
