State police probe two armed robberies

GRATZ — A masked man armed with a silver handgun held up a gas station Tuesday evening, hopped in his vehicle and drove 8.5 miles to Elizabethville, where he robbed a sandwich shop 15 minutes later.

State police at Lykens reported the man entered Lisi’s Shell Convenience Store at 202 W. Market St. in Gratz at 8:12 p.m., produced a silver handgun and demanded money from the cash register. He left with an undisclosed amount of money and is believed to have driven off in a dark-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee or similar vehicle.

At 8:28 p.m., the same man walked into the Subway restaurant at 202 N. Market St. in Elizabethville, pulled the same weapon and again demanded money from the register.

The robber in both cases was described as a white male in his late teens or early 20’s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing a brown hoodie sweatshirt, possibly Ecko brand with a rhino image and jeans. He wore a black and white polka dot bandanna over his face.

Anyone who may have information about either incident is asked to call State Police at Lykens at 717-362-8700.
