SHAMOKIN DAM -- More than 50 adult technical courses are available this fall at SUN Area Career & Technology Center in New Berlin, a school official told business professionals attending a Friday morning session sponsored by the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Carol D'Amico, adult education and purchasing coordinator at SUN Tech, addressed about 12 small-business workers Friday morning about how the school can help these organizations grow. It was sponsored by the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce.
"A lot of people, when they hear of SUN Tech, they think of high school," she said. "We are not just a high school. ... There is a lot going on in our adult education."
Several new programs are offered this fall, and one is a building maintenance certificate, which D'Amico said covers aspects such as residential electric wiring, rough framing, plumbing, air conditioning, commercial/advanced residential writing, finish carpentry, oil-fired hydronic boilers and accessories and refrigerant management certifications.
"We create classes according to what business needs are," she said.
Currently, there are 19 programs offered, and each program has an advisory committee that meets twice a year to discuss what new classes need to be implemented.
Other new classes this fall include Basic Car Care, Introduction to Variable Frequency Drives, Basic Digital Camera Photography, Photoshop basics, Mastercam 2D, Maintaining Your Home Computer and Intro to Veterinary Medicine.
