KINGSTON - The new owner of the bankrupt Diamond Glass windshield repair and replacement company is laying off 165 northeastern Pennsylvania employees.
Ohio-based Belron US bought Diamond on June 30. Belron spokeswoman Jenny Cain says Belron's Columbus, Ohio, headquarters will take on Diamond's headquarters operations.
Cain says about 100 corporate center jobs and 65 call center jobs at Kingston will be eliminated by the end of the year. The move leaves about 150 workers at Kingston, where a distribution center and retail location will remain open.
Diamond Glass was founded in 1923 in Scranton. It grew to more than 200 service centers and 900 mobile installation vehicles in 42 states before declaring bankruptcy this year with an estimated $105 million in debt.
