Campers happy to crunch some numbers

LEWISBURG -- Students throughout the Valley learned about engineering disciplines and how to apply them in everyday life at Bucknell University's engineering camp. Assistant professor of chemical engineering Erin Jablonski said the program, now in its first year, provides students in seventh, eighth and ninth grade the opportunity to share their passion for the math and sciences with their peers.

"I think it's nice for people who think alike to get together and know that there are other people there age out there who think this way," Jablonski said Friday.

The event also gave the young students the opportunity to experience life on a college campus.

"They've been living on campus and getting a real college experience -- eating in the cafeteria, staying up all night and those sorts of things," Jablonski said.

Students from Lewisburg, Danville, Selinsgrove and Catawissa school districts attended the week long program that concluded today.
