SUNBURY -- Last month, Holly and her husband welcomed their 4-year-old grandchild into their home.
The Sunbury couple, who have six children between them, were already struggling to provide for themselves and three children -- ages 6, 13 and 16 -- still at home.
Holly is a stay-at-home mother and her husband is employed, but keeping the family fed, clothed and sheltered consumes their resources.
"We're trying to make everything last," she said.
The couple is happy to care for their young granddaughter, whose father is in jail and whose young mother is ill-equipped to be a parent.
But due to their financial situation, they reached out to the Salvation Army and the Needy Family Fund for assistance with food for the family and clothing and toys for the younger children this holiday.
"We just appreciate what people can offer," Holly said.
The Needy Fund balance has reached $85,089. With a $25,000 grant from the Degenstein Foundation of Sunbury, the total now stands at $110,089.

Pyro Division, Danville, $3,000; "in memory of Charles Reitz" by wife and children, $30; and anonymous donations totaling $250.
