Teen killed in crash

SNYDERTOWN -- One teenager was killed and another was taken to the hospital by helicopter when the car they were riding in crashed through a guide rail and struck a stand of trees, state police at Stonington said.

Alison Dalto, 17, of 677 Orange St., Northumberland, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:45 p.m. of multiple blunt force trauma, said Chief Deputy Coroner James R. Gotlob.

Steven Reigle, 18, of 12 Sunbury St., Snydertown, was a passenger in the vehicle and was taken to Geisinger Medical Center by helicopter. He was treated and released Saturday night.

Police said Ms. Dalto was driving west on Snydertown road within the Snydertown borough at 1 p.m. when the crash occurred.

She was driving a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero at an excessive rate of speed when she lost control of the car on a curve in the road struck a guide rail, police said. The car bounced over the guide rail before striking several trees and coming to rest.

Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt.

On Nov. 7 of last year, another crash on Snydertown road claimed the lives of Johnathan A. Young, 19, of Kempton, and Mark Edward Meister, 18, of 1000 Fort Augusta Ave., Sunbury.

That crash happened after a witness said the car was speeding at over 100 mph. Both men were ejected from the car after it mounted a guide rail and struck several trees.
