LEWISBURG -- Bucknell University students and community members gathered Sunday night to reflect on the tragedy at Virginia Tech and help each with the healing process.
The convocation was held on the campus academic quad in front of Bertrand Library just as the sun began to sink over the horizon.
Chaplain Ian Oliver officiated the event, introduced speakers and gave an introduction to the somber attendees.
"Tonight we gather to do what a college community does best... to reflect on the meaning of these events," he said. "We gather to honor them with our presence."
Students were also reassured of campus safety by Bucknell Provost Mary DeCredico during the vigil.
"On behalf of President Mitchell and all the staff at Bucknell University, we will examine every aspect of our crisis management plans."
She added: "As we mourn, as we grieve... as we move on to a new day, we must retain the best of our learning community."
During the convocation special music was provided by the Bucknell a capella ensemble Beyond Unison. Several students hugged as the notes echoed between the buildings.
A student speaker, Katie Urosevid, expressed that the out-pouring of support for Virginia Tech from Bucknell was heart-warming. "Tonight," she said, "we are all Hokies."
"In the next few hours, in the next few days and in the next few weeks... I urge you to find your own healing and to reach out to your friends and neighbors to help them find theirs."
As Beyond Unison closed the ceremony with another song, students and residents ambled slowly from the scene, some holding hands while others spoke in whispers.
