Garage destroyed by fire in Northumberland

NORTHUMBERLAND — Fire destroyed a garage at 217 King St. on Sunday morning.

Northumberland Fire Chief Jim Troupe said the detached structure was fully involved, “with flames going through the roof,” when borough firefighters arrived about 10. The fire was extinguished without a problem, Troupe said.

Firefighters used hand lines to put out the blaze. Temperatures, which hovered around 25 degrees, did not hamper efforts, the fire chief said.

Shamokin Dam and Point Township firefighters arrived to assist, Troupe said.

The garage is owned by Adam Klock, of Northumberland.

There was no damage estimate, Troupe said, and the cause of the fire was not immediately known. Klock was not available for comment.

Troupe said a state police fire marshal would investigate, but that the fire did not appear to be set.
