Resident holds dump truck theft suspect until police arrive

TROXELVILLE — A 22-year-old who stole a dump truck from a local municipal building was stopped by an area resident and held in his custody until police arrived.

Timothy Ryan Swanger, of 9081 Route 235 in Troxelville, is charged with burglary, criminal trespassing, theft of a motor vehicle, theft, two counts of receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving under the influence and related traffic offenses.

State Police in Selinsgrove said around 10:30 p.m. Nov. 15, Swanger used a key hidden outside the Adams Township Municipal Building to gain entry. Swanger had worked for the township in the past and had prior knowledge of the location of the key, police said.

Once inside the building, he allegedly removed a key for the dump truck from the key board and drove to Grey Squirrel Road, where a resident observed the truck and knew it shouldn’t be out.

The resident blocked the truck from leaving with his car and removed Swanger from the vehicle, holding him until police arrived, reports indicated.

The resident declined to be named.

Police said the value of the truck — a 2006 Ford F550 dump truck with snow plow — is estimated at $30,000.
