3 children need gifts, mom says

By Gina Morton

SUNBURY — A 53-year-old mother is having a difficult time providing for her three children and hopes to receive some gifts to give them Christmas morning.

Marilyn Adams moved to Sunbury from New York about three months ago. She is here with her three children and receives disability payments.

She said she heard about the local program and decided to sign up.

“I thought it was a good thing to help me and my children for Christmas,” Adams said.

Her three children — Essance, 11, Atara, 10, and Earl DeShaw, 7 — enjoy playing games. They don’t need anything special, just as long as there is something to open Christmas morning, she said.

“The difficult thing is just maintaining and taking care of them and myself,” Adams said. “I am on disability. I am sick myself, but otherwise everything is going pretty good.”

Although the past year was hard for the family, she is happy she and the children are settled and said she has fallen in love with the area.

“I’m hoping we have a good holiday and hoping that (the children) are happy with the things they get,” she said, “and I want to make sure God provides us with food on the table.”
