Mom of 3 wants toys for children

By Gina Morton

SUNBURY — A Sunbury woman whose fiance had surgery and is unable to work is hoping the Needy Family Fund will provide her three children with educational toys and materials this holiday.

This is the second year Angela Simon, 33, has asked for help.

“We applied last year because of hard times, and it’s worse this year,” she said.

Her fiance recently had back surgery and can’t work, and Simon finds herself trying to make ends meet for her family. She’s working full-time at various shifts and doesn’t have much time to spend with her children — Lillian, 8, Onna, 6, and James, 3.

She would like to get the children some learning toys.

“With him having the job he had, we were able to do what we needed to do,” she said. “Now there’s not enough to get what we wanted for them.”

Lillian is looking for makeup and books. Simon wants to give Onna some learning toys. James will enter preschool next year, and Simon would like to get him some educational toys to prepare for that.

“I want them to have the happiest Christmas they’ve had,” she said.

Last year’s Christmas turned out well despite the difficult times, and Simon said she hopes this year will be the same — not just for her family, but for everyone celebrating the holidays.
