SUNBURY — A city man is in the Northumberland County Prison on charges he assaulted his wife Thursday while she held her 2-year-old son in her arms.
City police said they were called to a home at 251 Pine St. at 10:30 p.m. after Jeremy Bingaman, 28, of 246 N. Front St., allegedly assaulted his wife, Julee Bingaman, 21.
Here’s what the victim told police:
Jeremy Bingaman came to her home angry about their recent breakup and, while she was sitting in a recliner holding her 2-year-old son, began to punch her in the face and head.
She pulled her knees to her head to protect her and her son from Bingaman’s blows but he continued to punch her in the legs and face.
As her husband left the home, Julee Bingaman told him she was calling police, at which point she said Bingaman punched her in the face again while she was still holding her child and then pushed both of them through a glass table that shattered beneath them. They were not injured.
Bingaman then fled. Police picked him up at his North Front Street home.
According to criminal court records, Bingaman has a criminal history dating to 2000 that includes arrests on drug charges, simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment, reckless endangerment and driving under the influence. He was on probation at the time of this arrest Thursday.
He was arraigned before District Judge Robert Bolton on two counts of simple assault, two counts of endangering the welfare of another person and one count of endangering the welfare of children.
