Sunbury man acquitted on attempted homicide charge but guilty of assault

SUNBURY — A Northumberland County jury acquitted a Sunbury man of attempted homicide, but convicted him of felony aggravated assault following a two-day trial.

Manuel J. Molina, 26, was charged with stabbing Mario Solorio, 41, of Sunbury, in the back and abdomen.

Molina testified at trial that Solorio attacked him and he lashed out with the knife in self defense.

District Attorney Anthony Rosini said Molina had no physical injuries and gave authorities several versions of the incident.

He was charged with attempted homicide, attempted robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and recklessly endangering another person.

After deliberating for three hours, the jury convicted Molina of all but the attempted homicide and robbery charges.

District Attorney Anthony Rosini said he faces a minimum of 4 1/2 to six years up to 20 years when he’s sentenced within 90 days.
