Guest used gun in rape, police say

DANVILLE — A heavy-drinking Montandon man raped a 32-year-old woman at gunpoint before allowing the mother of three to send her children off to the school bus, according to state police at Milton.

Dwaine Allen Gauger, 38, of Bucknell Trailer Court, near Montandon, was arraigned on rape and related charges Tuesday by Montour County District Judge Marvin Shrawder and released on $100,000 unsecured bail.

Gauger moved in with the woman, her boyfriend and her three children around Aug. 15. He had performed construction work around their home on Continental Boulevard in Derry Township, Montour County, and was thought to be a guest in their home.

The woman said Gauger immediately became interested in and possessive of her when her boyfriend’s brothers or friends visited or when her boyfriend showed her affection.

The woman, who was not identified because of the nature of the case, told police Gauger would frequently drink all day and become mean and aggressive with her and her children.

After her boyfriend left to drive truck Sept. 23, Gauger drank grain alcohol with tea most of the day and started arguments with her, she told police.

She told him she didn’t want to deal with him and was going to bed. He grabbed her by the arm and yelled at her, she said. Gauger then went to the second floor looking for clothes, and when he walked back downstairs, he was naked, according to the charges.

After he yelled for her to find him some shorts, he followed her upstairs and kicked her in the leg, knocking her to the ground, police said.

When she grabbed her cell phone to call her boyfriend, Gauger knocked it from her hand and took the house phone from her, too, police said.

The woman grabbed a handgun in a case her boyfriend had. Gauger took the loaded gun out of the case and said, “You’re going to take it and promise not to claim rape,” according to the charges.

After he allegedly raped her, the woman reached up to try and get the gun. Gauger grabbed both her hands, pinning them above her head, police said. He emptied the cartridges out of the gun on the floor and emptied two other weapons in the room. He gave the woman a sheet to cover up with, took her downstairs and made her lie on the couch. He fell asleep on top of her, not allowing her to get up, she told police.

She was there for several hours until 6 a.m., when she told Gauger the children were going to be up, and she needed to get them off to school. He allowed her to get up and get the children on the school bus.

Gauger then gathered his belongings and left the home, according to the charges.

Police charged him with aggravated assault, rape, possessing an instrument of crime, two counts of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and indecent assault.

  • Lewisburg schools face cuts in personnel, programs

LEWISBURG -- Superintendent Mark DiRocco told the Lewisburg school board Thursday night that a proposed block grant system of school budget funding will run the district short of cash that will have to be made up through personnel and program cuts. Lewisburg's proposed 2012-13 budget stands at $28.6 million, with no less but also no more money coming from Harrisburg. "Even a neutral budget is problematic," DiRocco said.
