County prison lieutenant admits DUIs

SUNBURY — A Northumberland County Prison lieutenant is awaiting sentencing, and may lose his job, after pleading guilty to driving under the influence.

Michael J. Faust, 47, of Coal Township, pleaded guilty before Northumberland County Judge Charles H. Saylor on Monday for two drunken-driving incidents that occurred within months of each other.

Faust was charged with driving under the influence last November and was preparing to be placed in a first-time offenders program, but he was barred from it when he was arrested a second time on Feb. 18.

He was suspended, without pay, in April from the job he’s held at the jail for 20 years.

The prison board meets today and is expected to act on Faust’s employment, Commissioner Kurt Masser said.

Until he’s sentenced within the next two months, Faust has been ordered by the judge to undergo alcohol and drug assessments.
