SCRANTON — A former northeastern Pennsylvania volunteer firefighter will spend at least 10 years in prison for a string of arsons that caused millions of dollars in damage.
Former Whites Crossing volunteer firefighter Benjamin B. Christensen was sentenced Tuesday in Lackawanna County Court. He pleaded no-contest to arson charges in September.
Authorities say the Carbondale resident set five fires and conspired with another man in two others between February 2007 and March 2008. Co-defendant Robert Woolaver Jr. is serving a four- to 16-year sentence.
A volunteer firefighter suffered a heart attack while battling one of the blazes.
