WASHINGTONVILLE — At 90, Washingtonville Mayor Esther Cotner has decided to retire from one of her positions.
“It’s about time. I’m almost 91,” she said Monday.
She will resign as financial secretary of the Washingtonville Municipal Authority — a position she has held for 35 years — as of Jan. 1.
She will remain an authority member, however.
Vera Fleming, also of Washingtonville, will replace her as secretary. Both will attend the authority’s meeting Thursday night.
Cotner will continue to serve as Washingtonville mayor, a post she has held for about six years.
She is a former district judge and a former Montour County commissioner.
“I will have plenty of things to fill in,” she said, including continuing to serve as chairwoman of the Jane DeLong Community Hall in Washingtonville.
